What is the Certificate IV in TESOL?

The Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a nationally accredited training qualification and is designed for people who would like to teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ ESL) in Australia or overseas.

About the Program

The course is offered as an intensive full time four week program. It aims to develop:

  • Knowledge of Adult TESOL teaching methodology required for English language skill development
  • Students' ability to plan and design effective learning strategies and resources
  • Students' ability to plan an integrated lesson using communicative language teaching approach
  • An understanding of traditional grammar and strategies to locate information

Teaching practice is integrated throughout the course and students are mentored, supported and supervised by experienced staff who have substantial experience teaching overseas.

This is a full time course offered over 4 weeks and is held from 8.30 to 5.00 Monday to Friday with a total of 35 hours of face to face instruction.

Graduates of this course will meet the minimum specialisation required for teaching English to Speakers of other languages as required by the National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme (NEAS).

In order to gain employment in the sector in Australia, students are required to hold a degree or three year diploma.

Entry Requirements

Students must have an acceptable level of English Language competence, with an overall score of (academic) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.5. Students must also have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
