Who is this course for?
The General English Course is suitable for students who wish to:
- Improve their English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing
- Develop their knowledge of grammar usage
- Develop their study skills
- Gain a knowledge of the Australian culture and education system
- Develop 'learning how to learn' skills in preparation for further study or employment
About the Program
This course is a full time ten week program offered in five week modules. Students ordinarily take 10 weeks to progress to the next level of the course.
Classes are held Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 12:45 or 12:50 to 5:05.
The course is offered full time, 20 hours of face to face teaching, in addition to a further 5 hours a week of Independent Study, offered either from 11 to 12 or 1:30 to 2:30 every day.
Course Outline
Classes focus on developing students' ability to function effectively in the new society and culture. The course provides intensive skill development in all language skills, enabling students to achieve their chosen pathway, further study or employment. Students progress from Elementary to Advanced levels. The content and skills are sequentially developed as students progress to a higher level.

At the end of each level, students undertake a series of tests as well as ongoing assessment tasks to determine their entry to the next level of the program.

Entry Requirements
Admission and placement into the different General English Courses is dependant on:
- An IELTS Test score or Offshore Placement Test
and
- An Onshore Placement test conducted at Chisholm International English Language Centre
Study Skills
The course focuses on developing study skills through:
- The use of the Independent Learning Centre and individual learning plans
- Integration of all classroom and community based activities, focusing on research skills, report writing, project based tasks
- Use of Computer Assisted Language Learning
Assessment
To successfully complete the General English Course, a series of assessment tasks, including tests, will be conducted.
These assessment tasks cover the following skills:
- Online Language Learning
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
Fees
Tuition fees are $310 per week plus $110 material fees for a ten week course
